Failed DDoS Attack, ICC Results and Cardano India
Intersect Announces Interim Constitutional Committee Results
GM Frens,
What's Spotlight? Every week, we highlight the most interesting events happening around Cardano. We want to help you cut the clutter and find the alpha.
What a week! What a month! Cardano has taken over Crypto Twitter this month, guided by governance, meme frenzy, and the failed DDoS attack on the chain. Meanwhile, Intersect announced Interim Constitutional Committee results. In other news, NuCast announced a nationwide Cardano Hackathon in India. Let’s deep dive into these developments:
Cardano Kills DDoS Attack
Cardano is a secure and resilient chain 💙
On June 24th an attacker began using three separate wallets to bombard the Cardano network with transactions. Each of these transactions executed 194 junk scripts, for 0.9 ADA per transaction. That hiked the blockchain load up to an average of 71.8% for June 25th and, at points, put a 92% load on the network.
0.9 ADA is a cheap cost to post scripts to the chain, and the attacker made their transactions cheaper by removing the credential check on their transactions.
Phil, CEO, and Founder of AnastasiaLabs, discovered this and realised that another user could stop the attack by deregistering the attacker's stake credentials. The wallet that deregistered the credentials received almost 400 ADA locked as collateral to execute this attack.
The total attack cost around $250 per hour in fees for the attacker, who failed to properly disrupt the network as most services, e.g. DEXes and NFT marketplaces, operated efficiently during the attack. Many community members tackled the narrative and showed how the attacker just ended up giving up 3,460 ADA in fees to the Cardano blockchain.
Intersect Announces ICC Results
ICC Groups Dominates First Governance Results ✅
Intersect, a member-based organisation, announced the result of the interim constitutional committee (ICC) on June 27. The Cardano community elected Cardano Atlantic Council, Cardano Japan, and Eastern Cardano Council as ICC representatives.
Elected representatives will soon begin their onboarding process, and the Intersect Constitutional Support team will be contacting them shortly. Additionally, Intersect is inviting applications to establish Intersect’s Constitutional Council.
Cardano Foundation voted with 20M ADA, and strongly emphasised transparency throughout the process, here are CF’s top six:
The Cardano Atlantic Council
Eastern Cardano Council
Lloyd Duhon
Johnny Kelly
Cardano Japan
Joshua Stone
Moving beyond the ICC, preparations are underway for 50 global workshops to draft Cardano’s ultimate Constitution, commencing in August. The final lineup for these workshops will be confirmed in early July.
